It is hard to escape it. Salt is everywhere. A shelf inspection of your local grocery store will enlighten the casual shopper that nothing on the shelf is without salt except the basics. Even the water and the milk have salt. Food preparation using real , unprocessed foods is likely you’re only hope for a salt free diet. The good stuff!
Table salt has the chemical formula NaCl which is the symbol for Sodium Chloride. It is an ionic compound. In an ionic compound a negatively charged electron from the Sodium atom transfers to the Chlorine atom. This reaction holds the two atoms together.
According to the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Sodium induced high blood pressure is a major cause of heart disease (AKA heart attack) and stroke. A heart attack or stroke is a
bad juju. The FDA states,
the food supply contains too much sodium
. All products in the grocery store have a
Nutrition Facts label . This helps the consumer get a
good quick and dirty of how much Sodium (salt) the consumer's product of interest is going to contain. Not to undermine the label maker, the labels are very well thought out, but you have to be careful, because the grocery store and product manufacturer are in the business of making money. For example, one label may say the bag of chips contains a smacking dose of 100 mg of sodium per serving and the serving size is two chips , and the other may say it has 50 mg of sodium per serving, but the serving size is one chip. As we can see, the sodium content in the chip containers are exactly the same.
Chips and processed food are not good, because they have a truckload of salt in every bag. When the consumer goes to the grocery store they have to be on their toes and have their head on a swivel, and be on the lookout for sodium trickery. Making food from scratch and eating the basics, vegetables ( no salt added can foods), fruits, unprocessed meats, chicken, and fish. An old School diet is a good school diet sans the table salt. Our body requires some trace amounts of salt, but when the consumer is searching for a bite to eat, they should be thinking zero.
One restaurant meal contains a shockingly high dose of salt, and it is very difficult to get a low sodium substitute at the local eatery. Remember, the favorite restaurant is in the business of making money that is why they are salting the food. They want you to return and eat again. So, it is just as important to look at the food labels in the restaurant as in the grocery store. If there is not a low sodium meal to consumers' liking, then don’t eat at the restaurant.
Sodium causes the consumer to gain weight by causing the body to absorb water. Thus, increasing the amount of blood, and consequently increasing the blood pressure. This causes a great deal of strain on the internal systems of the body,
and over time the overpressure results in component break down , which would be your internal body parts. According to the FDA more than 4 in 10 people in the United States have high blood pressure. Thus, millions of people will die as a result. More people will die of salt ingestion than automobile accidents.
Salt is addictive. Sodium affects the dopamine, endogenous opioids, and cannabinoid receptors in the brain much like marijuana and heroin except to a much lesser degree. Table salt and sodium in general share the same cerebral pathways as psychotropic drugs that perpetuate their excessive consumption.
Likewise, it causes the consumer to want more and more sodium until the body
pops like a balloon
from too much water. Resulting in sodium death. As you can see, salt is a subtle killer.
Therefore, the first step to getting in shape and starting a new life is to format a salt reduction plan.
